13 Best Part-Time Jobs That Offer Benefits

1. Target

The superstore is rarely mentioned on other sources for what they offer. After doing some digging, I found that they provide a substantial list of benefits for their part-timers.

  • If you are at least 18 and have worked a minimum of 1,000 hours, they will give back up to 5% towards a 401K.
  • There is an option for a Daycare Flexible Spending Account to help pay for childcare. You can contribute to this account before-tax dollars to save before-tax dollars from each paycheck to pay for qualifying daycare and eldercare expenses incurred while at work. The downside is that any money not spent by the end of the year isn’t refundable, which means you’ll just have to tighten up on your budgeting. That’s part of the resolution anyway, right?
  • Insurance – Target offers company-paid coverage equal to one times your annual pay. You may also purchase additional Supplemental Life Insurance coverage for up to eight times your annual pay and Life Insurance for your spouse/domestic partner and/or eligible children.

Five free counseling sessions, per issue, per year, are available. TMLR also provides resources for a wide variety of topics like managing money, dealing with stress, and developing a healthy dinner menu.”

2. Starbucks

Starbucks is at the top of the list for best places to work part-time. They have been notorious, for years, for the perks they offer their team members.

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision plan for you and your dependents. The coverage includes domestic partners.
  • Starbucks will match 100% contribution to a 401K on the first 5% of eligible pay.
  • Life Insurance: $5,000 automatic + voluntary supplemental life insurance
  • Vacation, holiday, and sick time.
  • Short and long-term disability
  • A pound of coffee or tea per week.
  • 5% discounted on stock
  • Free college tuition – This is the big one. The college tuition is through Arizona State University to be used towards a Bachelor’s degree. There are requirements, of course. In order to be eligible, you must maintain at least 520 hours per 6-month period (or about 20 hours per week).

3. Trader Joe’s

Also, at the top of the list for work environments, Trader Joe’s has a reputation for how well they pay their employees. According to Glassdoor, hourly wages can be up to $19 an hour.

  • Medical, Dental and Vision plan
  • 10% annual salary contribution to a retirement plan after meeting the eligibility requirements. Don’t despair, according to Trader Joe’s career page. Most Crew Members qualify after a couple of months, according to Trader Joe’s career page.
  • 10% discount on all the products available in their stores.
  • PTO TJ offers paid time-off that increases the longer that you work there. Their website says, “The money in the account belongs to you as soon as you accrue it. You earned it.”

4. Lowe’s

There is no difference between full time and part-time benefits at Lowes; they are the same. What is also incredible is that they are available immediately.

Calling all people who enjoy being outside, or having fun, working at REI is for you. REI Flex Plan Employees averaging 20 hours or more per week are eligible for this plan.

The company’s reputation for “Whole Pay Check” is changing, and if you work there, you definitely won’t use your entire paycheck on buying groceries due to their generous employee discount.

  • 20% in-store discount on your favorite products. After six months, team members have the opportunity to increase that discount up to 30%. Unlike Trader Joes, Whole Foods specifies “favorite products.” This is unclear as to whether you’re limited to the products you like or if everything is your favorite.
  • Discounts – Whole Foods partners with companies like Apple, Yeti, AT&T and others in certain regions of the country. These partnerships give employees access to discounts for these brands. They also offer home and auto discounts. Yes, please!

7. FedEx and UPS

For some reason, the carrier companies are very discreet about their incentive packages. What’s equally curious is that they all have reputations for providing great benefits from their employees, even though it is secret. This is what I’ve dug up on the company websites, glassdoor, LinkedIn job postings, and perhaps one or two false employment inquiries. Federal Express and UPS have provided identical information.

Where to Search

I’ve got good news; outside of these companies there are even more that offer great part-time employee benefits. When doing the research, I was completely surprised by the offerings that the companies have for part-time employees. I was even more surprised to find the abundance of employers who offer these benefits. You’re not limited to your options by any means. Here are some suggestions on where to look:

  • Linkedin
  • Indeed.com
  • Facebook
  • Zip recruiter
  • Glassdoor
  • USAjobs.gov
  • Careerbuilder

If you are going to make some extra coin, it should be enjoyable. Life is too short to only work for money and not be able to enjoy the process. Think about what is important to you beyond income. Remember, the company is selling itself to you just as much as you are selling yourself to the company. Happy job hunting, and best of luck on your soon to be interview
