9 Jobs You Can Do Remotely – Remote Jobs You Can Do Anywhere
1. Copywriter
As a copywriter, you normally produce blog content, press releases, and other material for people or companies. With copywriting you’ll simply need decent writing skills, but in order to attain that you usually need to start doing more work to build up your portfolio. If you’re worried that you don’t have writing skills, it’s okay! Start applying to tons of positions and start from ground up. Taking a job as a remote copywriter can help you begin adding to your resume as well as build your skillset. You can even build your own blog in order to prove your copywriting abilities.
2. Video Editor
If you have video editing skills, this job is quite remote. I’ve hired for video work, and all it takes is the ability for you and your client to transfer large files to each other. You’ll need software like Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro to edit videos (ideally). Or, you can use free software like Windows Movie Maker and iMovie.
3. English Teacher (or any language)
Sites like VIPKID, Cambly, and iTalki let you teach English and any other language online and make money. I used iTalki to learn Spanish and recommend it. As a teacher you get to set your rate, and iTalki takes a 15% cut. On Cambly you make about $10.20/hour and on VIPKID $14-22 USD per hour (based on this blog post).
4. Virtual Assistant
Virtual assistants (VAs) are self-employed people who help with administrative and technical tasks. Because all the work can be done online, VAs can work anywhere in the world.
VAs are extremely helpful to business owners as these entrepreneurs need to outsource their other tasks while focusing on growth. You can easily get started as a VA on sites like Upwork, popular job boards, and more.
5. Graphic Designer
Graphic designers create visual concepts and build designs for ads, brochures, cards, magazines, and more. They can do their work on their laptop so it’s a great remote position for nomads. Though there can be a steep learning curve, there are many resources online that teach you how to do this. Graphic designers usually use Adobe creative apps like Photoshop and Illustrator, and generally they’ll need to learn how to use their branding, creativity, and typography skills as well as present and communicate with clients. It can be a lucrative job especially if you build your portfolio, showcase your skills, and build your client base.
6. Web Designer
A web designer creates attractive and functional websites. And if they have UX experience, they will understand how to optimize the website experience for users so that they stay on the site longer and convert more. All of this of course is done online, but you’ll need to communicate with clients clearly to meet their needs. Check out bootcamps for web design here!
7. Customer Support Management
Customer support representatives need to understand how to speak with people, conduct conflict resolution, and maintain composure under high pressure situations. There are ways to do customer service through online means like live chat and e-mail as well as phone.
8. Android / iPhone / Web Developer
Being an app or web developer requires a bit more coding knowledge, which can be challenging but doable! If you’re interested in learning how to code, there are many resources online for you to learn coding including Codecademy and Learn Code the Hard Way. There are also intensive bootcamps that let you really learn coding skills within a few months like Hack Reactor, App Academy, and General Assembly.
9. Digital Marketing Professional
Digital marketing is a great profession to get into especially because it is applicable to creating your own businesses. It is essentially necessary in all businesses, so I don’t see there being a shortage of jobs anytime soon! I would highly recommend being a digital marketing professional, and you can find many resources to learn marketing including this blog as well as the Marketing School podcast.
Conclusion
I hope this sparked some new ideas when it comes to trying to find jobs you can do remotely. In a future post I’ll talk about websites to use to look for the above jobs! Let me know in the comments if you have additions to this list.
