Pinterest is a social media channel that a lot of people don’t take advantage of enough when it comes to marketing. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are usually the main channels people focus on as they are generally more popular, but after more research I see many bloggers making over $100,000 a month just by optimizing on Pinterest.
I want to share some of the reasons why you shouldn’t overlook Pinterest as a marketing tool, and why I advocate Pinterest for marketing your business. It should definitely be a part of your overall strategy especially when it comes to blogging and building a brand. Why Use Pinterest for Marketing Your Business
1. Pinterest is more like a search engine versus a social media channel
When people use Pinterest they’re searching for specific pins that’ll lead them to blog posts they want to consume and read. It is a channel that is great for blogging because people expect to click on the pin to be directed somewhere else (unless it is an infographic or image with outfit ideas meant to be reshared, for example). But ultimately people are SEARCHING for posts rather than merely sticking to whatever is on their feed.
I remember when I used Pinterest back in the day to search for outfit ideas. I would type in the search engine “Fall outfit ideas” or “Summer outfit ideas” and once I submitted my search, I was given many recommendations on the platform. However, on Facebook and Twitter you’re getting social updates from different companies or friends in your circle. These updates can be noisy and about anything. They’re not posts you search for and instead are pieces of information that just pop into your feed.
So as you can see the two different types of social channels function very differently. On Digital Marketer they classified Pinterest as a “dumb Google” because it has its own search algorithm, but it’s not as advanced as Google’s. However it works in the same way in that people are searching for specific content, and the Pinterest pins reflect the content you search for.
2. Pinterest pins have a longer lifespan than those of other social media channels
Pins on Pinterest can be reshared onto new boards whereas Facebook and Twitter have shorter lifespans when it comes to posts. On Facebook and Twitter, posts are pushed down as more and more updates are posted. Facebook and Twitter don’t act like a portfolio or repository for information. On the other hand Pinterest is more longer lasting, because people are saving graphics and pins onto their own boards. People will click into those boards and if they find your pins interesting, they may reshare on their own boards. Because of this, some pins can actually spread quickly if they’re catchy and hit the right people. This is why I advocate Pinterest and even Instagram for business because they create portfolios for your business with longer-lasting content.
3. There’s a large chance for virality when it comes to Pinterest posts
Like I mentioned in point #2, if you get noticed by one pinner and they pin your post into their own boards, it will notify THEIR followers. Those followers may then repin your work, and the more these posts are pinned to different boards the more people are going to see it, and it can spread like wildfire.
4. Pinterest really values high quality content. If you are especially good at design you’re going to succeed on Pinterest over other platforms.
Because Pinterest values high quality content, there’s not going to be a ton of spam as they track down and close accounts that are spammy. Those who have strong graphic design capabilities and have quality blog posts are going to really shine on the platform. This is advantageous if you’re great at these two aspects. You’re going to have a higher chance of virality. And because the quality is high on a platform, you don’t need to worry as much about your posts being overpowered by a ton of garbage. It’s always going to be optimized for the best stuff.
5. Pinterest users are more ready to buy on Pinterest than any other platform.
The reason that Pinterest users are more ready to buy than other social media channels is twofold:
- If Pinterest acts like a search engine, people are searching for the things that you’re posting. This means people who click are warmer leads than others who are getting served constant ads and posts on their feed without choice. People on Pinterest are searching for your stuff voluntarily. And because of that they’re more likely to convert because they want to look for the things you’re offering them. Even on Pinterest’s site they quote “55% of Pinners say they use the platform to shop for and find products, more than 4x the rate of other digital platforms.”
- One of the biggest and most important demographic to consider is that “Half of Pinterest users earn $50K or greater per year, with 10 percent of Pinteresting households making greater than $125K”. In general, Pinterest users are on average wealthier than people on other social media channels. This means they’re more likely to convert because they can afford the things you’re trying to sell.
6. Pinterest promoted pins (which are pins you pay for top of the page display), outperform all other social media channels.
Pinterest did some research and found that for every $100 brands spent on Pinterest, they received $60 more profit than from other social media channels. Pinterest obviously delivers a higher return on investment than other types of media. And on the Pinterest page they also quote that “for every $1 that advertisers spent on Pinterest they receive $2 in profit on Pinterest”.
Conclusion
If this list didn’t convince you, then I don’t know what will! These are all reasons why I’m invested in Pinterest and advocate Pinterest for marketing your business. I believe Pinterest can be a huge game changer for your blog and business.

I’ve used Pinterest for my blog for a few months now, but I haven’t had as much success as I would have hoped. I’m going to look into buying Pinterest Avalanche. Are there any other courses that you could recommend?
