Here are notes I took at the Raising Money Summit 2019 in Denver on a seminar by Michael Blank. The conference was a real estate conference teaching people how to raise money for their deals, and the talk was on how to build a brand online to get inbound leads.
Disclaimer: While all attempts are made to present correct information, there is a chance I’ve written notes incorrectly!
Build a Brand and Make Sales
You need a platform to raise a lot of money
- We’re in the online marketing business
- Build your brand (attract the right audience)
- Build your list with a lead magnet, you can’t control the other platforms like Youtube, Instagram, iTunes, etc… but you can with email. (know who’s in your tribe)
- Make sure you communicate with people after they sign up with you!
- Add value (raving fans)
- Ask them to invest
Build Your Brand – Attract the Right Audience
Step 1: Define your brand
- What’s your story? What’s your secret sauce? Make sure you understand what your niche and brand is about, and communicate that on your website and social platforms.
- What’s good about you, what do you enjoy, what are some successes you have, what are you for and what are you against
- Be authentic, don’t appeal to everyone. You should either be loved or hated
- Who are you going to serve?
- Create a tagline with the mission and target audience in mind
- Then create a company name, logo, and mood board
Step 2: Create your Home Base
Set up your one-page website (try Divi theme)
- Create a one-page website with the Divi theme
- Tell them why they should invest in the asset class and why they should invest in you.
- Create an about the team section
- Add your track record and portfolio
- Add an investment process / how it works
- Always add a call to action!
- Lead the reader to executing on something
Build Your List – Know Who’s In Your Tribe
- Capture and build your list
- Create a lead magnet
- Free download of some value that answers a burning question. It needs to be something that’s very strong (top tips from investors)
- Talk to investors and figure out where they are and what they need help with. Pick a topic and create an outline.
- Create the content on Word or Google docs, or even Canva.com
- Set up your email system
- Use Active Campaign, which costs around $9/month up to $500 subscribers
- Note from Sharon: I personally recommend ConvertKit over Active Campaign- a great email platform that lets you create autoresponder series and forms.
- Capture leads via an opt-in form
- Create an opt-in form and a download page. Once people sign up for your form, they receive their free download.
- Create a lead magnet
Add Value
- Provide high value (free) content
- Emails, blog, video, podcast
- Creates raving fans
Ask Them to Invest
- Onboard your investors
- Join the club, get them to schedule a phone call on Calendly
Finally Go Promote

- SEO, Guest Blogging, Podcast Guest, Start Podcast, Youtube Channel, Social Media, Book, Events, Etc… all to get them to download their free report, which allows you to get legitimate opt-ins.
Conclusion
Though this seminar was for real estate investors to get more financing, I feel the notes can be helpful for anyone trying to market their businesses. It’s important to build an impactful brand and deliver value to others. In that way, people will come to you because they can trust you as an expert in your niche.
