Here is a Canon G7x Mark II 2019 Newbie Review.

I did a video with my brother’s dog, Howie! LOL! We did a review of the Canon G7X Mark II. It is my favorite vlogging camera! Howie asks me some crucial questions about the Canon G7X as I discuss the pros and cons to the device. If you want something simple to use though, this camera is a good one to start with.

Canon G7X Mark II 2019 Newbie Review for Vloggers

Show Notes

In this podcast, Sharon reviews (with a little help from Howie the dog) three popular cameras for new vloggers, as well as why the Canon G7X Mark II is her top choice.  The three cameras tested are the Canon G7X Mark II, the Canon T3i, and the Sony a6500.  Here’s how they fared in a side-by-side evaluation.

Overall

The Canon G7X Mark II was overall the easiest to use.  It can be used for recording straight out of the box since it doesn’t have any complicated features that may be confusing to a new user.  To add to its user-friendliness, the camera has a pop-up screen at the top to allow for easy vlogging.  It also produces high-quality footage perfect for educational, “talking to the camera” purposes.

The Canon T3i is bulky in design, making it a less ideal choice for a vlogger who wants to record on-the-go; its pop-up screen is also located on the side.  With its lack of auto-focus for face detection, it produces lower-quality footage.

While the Sony a6500 produces excellent, high-quality footage, its high price point makes it a less economic choice for newer vloggers.  On the usability end, the high-quality footage it produces creates file sizes that are more difficult to edit.  It is better suited for professional music videos and short films.

Features

The Canon G7X Mark II features a touch-screen interface and a retractable pop-up screen located at the top of the camera.  Its auto-focus capability with face detection ensures that the user is always in focus, even while moving with the camera.  It is portable and lightweight, making for easy travel and on-the-road vlogging.  However, the camera’s lack of an audio port makes it incompatible with any external mic that needs to be plugged directly into the device, and it also stops recording by default at 25 minutes.

This is the digital nomad quest podcast with Sharon Tseung. teaching people how to build passive income become financially free and design their best lives. Hey guys, it’s Sharon from digital nomad quest. And I wanted to do this newbie review of the Canon g seven x mark two. So again, I’m a total newbie when it comes to like best camera settings and features and things like that. So this review is going to be perfect for people who want like a high quality camera but don’t want to learn like the best camera settings and things like that. So I literally took this camera out of the box and just started recording. Normally, when I look at camera reviews, the things that I care about are just what the raw footage looks like, as well as how easy it is to use. So I bought three cameras already, I bought the Canon t three I, the Sony, a six 500. And then I bought this camera and out of all three cameras, I definitely recommend this one for blogging because it’s so easy to use, and the quality is really high. This camera is better for like me talking to the camera directly about educating people on different topics versus the other cameras that I have. So the issues I have with the Canon TIR that now it’s basically lower quality than what’s out there, as well as when it comes to autofocus, it doesn’t have face detection. So it’s going to be hard to figure out if it’s autofocus or not, the T three is also a really bulky so it’s hard to carry around a pop up screen is on like the side rather than the top. So I like that the g7 X the screen comes up at the top, it’s easier to vlog with. Now the Sony A six 500, the quality is really high, I would use it for professional music videos and things like that. But the price point is pretty high, it will cost about one to two grand, including the lens. Also the file size is really big. So I don’t think it’s good for blogging because you can record like a 10 minute video and it ends up being around four gigabytes or more, I believe. And it’s just a lot harder to edit when the file sizes are so big. Ok. So now I want to talk about features. This is the Canon g7. Excellent to what I love about it is this pop up screen. And it’s touchscreen. So if you want to focus, you can just tap it and it will auto focus. And when you’re blogging with it, it does face detection. So it’ll follow you around when you are blogging and it will make sure that you are in focus, which is very nice. I’ve had issues with that with my other camera where I’m recording for like 30 minutes, and then I checked the footage later and none of it was in focus. And that’s like, super annoying. It’s also very portable. So when I’m traveling or something like that it’s really easy to carry. And it’s very lightweight. So I highly recommend it when you’re on the road and things like that, it’s very easy to bus it out and just record. The two cons I have for this camera is that it doesn’t have an audio port so that you can hook up an external mic. So it’s kind of annoying when you’re outdoors, especially the audio quality is not going to be as good especially if it’s windy, it’s going to have that window if you’re depending on this camera. I personally carried this mic around and then I replace the audio with the audio from this mic. So let me guys show you a quick sound test coming from this camera. Okay, so here’s the sound test right now. So this is what it sounds like without me using this microphone. So it’s not as good as you know if you can use that external mic. To capture this video, you can hear some background noise and things like that. And the other con i have is that around 25 minutes, it ends up shutting off. So when I’m doing interviews, 25 minutes in, it’ll stop recording and then I have to press the record button again. Maybe there’s a workaround for this, but I haven’t looked it up to be honest. So this is what I found to be the two cons but other than that everything is great with this camera. It’s exactly what I need. So when I’m blogging, it’s just like busted out start recording, everything’s in focus, everything’s high quality, and it’s just super easy to use. So out of all three cameras, I definitely recommend this one for blogging. I also recommend the Sony A six 504 like professional videos, cinematic looking videos if you want to do that. But yeah, this is a great camera. So I hope you guys enjoyed this episode. Please make sure to rate review and subscribe. It really helps our podcast grow. And thanks again. I’ll see you guys in the next one.

  1. Hey!

I recently purchased the Canon g7x Mark II for my YouTube channel.. I’m wondering what mic you used for better audio and how to replace the audio from the camera. Let me know!! Thanks.
