Hey guys, it’s Sharon from digital nomad quest. And today we’re gonna talk about how to choose your niche for your blog. And if you guys are new to this channel, welcome, I’m all about teaching y’all how to build passive income, become financially free and design your best lives. So if you guys are interested in that, make sure to subscribe and hit the bell button to be notified of my latest videos before you even start a blog, you need to choose your niche. And this is something that’s very crucial as your first step, which is why I wanted to create this video. So make sure to watch till the end so you understand how to choose a niche that actually makes money as well as how to choose a niche that you’re gonna keep blogging about without getting tired of it. So first of all, what is a niche so a niche is a narrowed down topic from a broader category that focuses on a target audience. Now your ideal niche is going to have high search volume, low competition and high income potential. So what does that mean? So basically, a category might be pets. And then a more narrow down niche might be pet dogs. And then a more narrow down niche might be golden retrievers, and you can keep going down subcategories in order to find your ideal niche, but Golden Retrievers might be a good one. So that might be something you want to check out, you’re going to basically verify if there’s a lot of competition through tools like Google Keyword Planner. So if you pull up Google Keyword Planner, and then search up Golden Retrievers under keyword ideas, you’ll be able to check basically the monthly searches as well as the competition level. So focus on the first columns, because the later columns are actually about paid ads. So you want to check if competition is high, low or medium. And then you want to check the monthly searches and see if you can compete with other people in the niche. Another thing you can do is go on Google and search something within Golden Retrievers, like how to train a golden retriever and then see on the first page, what kind of search results you’re getting and evaluate those webpages to see if they are authority sites that will be hard to compete with or not, this is a good way to gauge if this is a good niche where you can actually rank pretty high on Google with it. But this shouldn’t be your main focus as your main focus should be basically how passionate you are about the topic. So maybe you are a golden retriever owner and you’re super excited about Golden Retrievers, you own a bunch of golden retriever stuff, you know the ins and outs of how to train your dog and like which trainers you should use what type of food they eat a bunch of things like that. So you want to gauge in that way of are you super passionate about it, because that’s the number one thing you want to make sure you are to prevent burnout. So you want to make sure that it’s something that you can keep talking about for a long time. Because if you’re bored of it, you’re probably going to stop and give up. And what I always say is when you’re doing any type of content creation, you want to make sure you think five plus years timeframe in terms of how long you’re going to stick with this, you want to make sure you stick with your content creation platform. If it’s blogging, you want to make sure that you’re able to write about Golden Retrievers because you are super passionate about it, you can talk about it all day. And every day, something you can’t stop talking about, we talked about those three factors of high search volume, low competition, high income potential, you want to make sure that your niche is kind of in between when it comes to the amount of competition. So if you have a niche where it’s not enough visitors like not enough monthly searches, then you’re not going to be able to really monetize it, you might be able to rank well. But you might not be able to make too much money off of it or get enough traffic because not many people are looking into it. However, I do find that if it is oversaturated, you can still rank for it. So one way to do that is you look at a hot topic like health, wellness, fitness, right? Obviously, that’s going to be super saturated, you can still rank for it, you might want to narrow down a little bit. But basically one way to do is you choose three to five sub topics that you’re going to talk about with your blog and blog about those things. Or you can go narrow and make that whole website only focus on that one thing, for example, you can go into goat yoga or something like that, which is a little bit unique and weird. And then you only talk about that in your website. So something like avocados, and by creating go, they talk about multiple subtopics within their site. So it kind of depends on the route you want to go with because you can rank for a bunch of different articles within the sub topics that you’ve chosen, just narrow it down to like three to five and like specialize in those different sub topics or you make the whole website about that sub topic if that makes sense. Some people face the problem to have kind of narrowing themselves down too much where basically they can’t talk about anything else and they want to kind of broaden their horizons. So I kind of like the approach of doing a sort of medium sized niche and then also talking about three sub topics underneath that niche within your blog. So for example with mine it’s digital nomad, right my whole site is digital nomad quest calm but because I’m not a digital nomad anymore, I really tried to specialize in more building passive income to create that financial and location.Unknown Speaker 5:00
independence. So I kind of talked about three different topics like of digital nomads, personal finance, and building passive income. So that might be very broad, but I think it all works. It just kind of depends on how much effort you’re going to put in. In terms of keyword research and Pinterest with ranking or individual posts. I kind of talked about a lot of different things in this video, but I hope it kind of makes sense in terms of how to think about it when it comes to choosing your niche. Usually, it’s ideal though to kind of choose that midway balance between something that’s oversaturated or under saturated and you want to get that middle sweet spot. So I hope you guys enjoyed this video.
