January 2020 Progress Report

January was an amazing month for me!

I started the new year with a house party at my place, where a bunch of my closest friends visited and rang in the new year together. In January I was starting to feel like I hadn’t been good about hanging out with my close friends. I didn’t know if it were because I had been so caught up with my work and my relationship, or if it were also that my friends were in relationships and we were all doing our own things. But at least the new year started with a get-together!

I try my best to stay conscious of my life balance and make sure I’m not getting too extreme on one domain of my life while forgetting others.

Travels

Salinas/Monterey/Carmel

For our anniversary, my boyfriend and I visited Salinas, Monterey, and Carmel. We stayed at this lovely ADU in Salinas where we really unplugged from our work. Initially I booked this trip not only for our anniversary, but also as a work retreat. In the past we had thought it would be super beneficial if we spent a whole weekend with our heads down on our work. But we ended up pretty much relaxing and having fun with each other.

To be honest, I really needed this escape!

I think a work retreat would be amazing later on, but I guess I wasn’t up for it at the time. I pretty much had the best sleep of my life on the trip. I felt rejuvenated, and it made me feel like it really is necessary to take those breaks sometimes, and staying somewhere away from home really helps. I was barely on my phone or looking at my laptop. By taking these trips, you may come back with more energy, creativity, and motivation in a new environment.

Austin

For my full-time work, I went to Austin for 3 nights. We met our recently hired content manager who lives in Austin, and we shot a commercial (which I’ll talk about more later). And I also got to hit up some really nice restaurants and eat amazing food:

Feelings

January = Fluctuating Motivation

During January, I started gaining and losing motivation very easily. I didn’t really like that I needed rest so much. However, Google Keep helped bring me back to normal motivation as I confidently knocked out items on my list.

Even with this fluctuating motivation, I looked at January’s accomplishments and I couldn’t even complain. I got a lot done and I’m very proud of myself. This is what feels different about 2020! I’ve been accomplishing a lot with my 20% to give me 80% of results. Haha, maybe it’s the year number that’s getting me on that hype (2020!). 2020 = 20/20 vision on my 20%, hah.

I definitely think I’m focusing on the right things that will build me up faster.

Remembering My Mortality

Something I was really reminding myself more of was my own mortality. It’s so easy to forget that we’re not immortal/invincible and forget how short life can be. We think that we have as much time as we want in the world, but we know that’s not the case.

Mid month, I had this crazy scare where I imagined the worst happening. I asked myself “what would I do if I didn’t have much time left on this Earth”? This helped bring me back to gratitude where I just felt super grateful for my life and how I still had the capability of hanging out with friends and family. That’s a privilege that we end up taking for granted constantly.

Passive Income / Financial Freedom Goals

A lot of things happened that I felt put me towards my financial goals.

Miracle Morning / Exercise

You probably remember my new goals in 2019 around health that I wanted to implement.

I’m happy to say I was able to keep up with my health goals, as I was completing the miracle morning every morning and exercising at the gym each weekend.

Health is super important for me because I notice I have a ton of anxiety, and a lot of it includes health anxiety where I’m constantly assuming my health is going to shit and that something is wrong with me. I had even visited doctors, who would tell me that nothing was wrong with me and that I was going through anxiety.

I just need to relax, and one way of helping that is actually exercising and eating good foods. If I know I’m being super healthy, I can’t really complain about not trying my best with my health.

Interviews

Lately, I’ve been interviewing the right people, getting interviewed, and intentionally putting out the right videos on YouTube. I got to interview Ryan Scribner on my channel which pushed my subscriber count up a lot, and I was interviewed on Wired for Youth which was awesome.

Promotion

I GOT PROMOTED TO GENERAL MANAGER! My full-time work has actually been amazing in teaching me so much, and it’s actually been pretty fun building our product. I’ve been able to really influence the look and feel of our product and even guide product decisions. And it’s looking dope:

Got to work on filming a commercial

Along the same lines, we worked on supervising a video shoot that we planned. The video assets would be helpful for our site, YouTube, ads, and more.

Rental properties

One of the biggest things in January is…. I’m working on acquiring out of state properties. More on this later :).

Lots of updates. January was great and I’m happy about how 2020 started. I hope February will be even better!
