March 2020 Progress Report – Staying Home Amidst Coronavirus

Sharon Tseung Design Your Life Leave a Comment

Let’s just start by saying coronavirus really changed everything this month.

The virus went from manageable to becoming a huge pandemic/crisis. It’s really terrifying to see the progression of everything and how exponential the number of cases is becoming.

With everything that had been going on, my progress felt a lot slower this month than other months.

I’m trying to be more productive right now, but being on lockdown and in quarantine has actually hurt my productivity in ways. It sounds like it doesn’t make sense because I have all the time in the world to focus. However, because I’m noticing firsthand that I just need my health and loved ones to have a happy life, there’s not as much motivation to hustle. My thoughts of owning places around the world and doing a bunch of things that get me out of the house – have been squashed. So why hustle?

I have to think long term with this though. And a lot of people are experiencing a financial crisis right now, and I need to figure out how I can do my part in helping others get through this.

So I’ll keep generating content and hustling – just have to keep reminding myself of my “Why”!

March 2020 Progress Report

Let’s just sum up my updates here:

Bahahhaa. Honestly the above sums up a lot if you watch it. But let’s get right into it:

Biggest Win: Closed on my 4-Plex!

This month I was able to close on my 4-plex, which was probably my biggest win this whole year! I have been talking about this since I was 21 – about getting out-of-state rentals. I finally picked one up, and I’m going to see how it performs. I’m also in escrow for another property, but that one’s been hard to deal with so we’ll see if April is better for the single family home I’m pursuing.

As for the process of closing, I had to fill out and scan a lot of forms, speak with my property management company, agent, lender, and even the water department to get things organized. Now my property manager should be able to handle most things which is nice. I have full confidence in the property management company because of their high ratings online and professionalism, so I’m happy I spent the extra money to pick them up. Their rate is a bit higher than some of the other property managers I was possibly going to use, but I believe it’s worth the spend. A great property management company is key to your success in out-of-state real estate investing.

500 Members in the Facebook Group!

I’ve been trying to be super engaged with my Facebook group, and I’m stoked because it looks like it’s gotten more and more traction. This group is honestly one of the best ways to get in touch with me, so if you want to do it, go join through this link here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/digitalnomadquest/

Converting My Boyfriend’s Place to an Airbnb

I’m starting an Airbnb business with my boyfriend, renting out his place as a short term rental because his roommates are moving out. He would be living in one of the rooms while renting the other rooms out. I’m excited to learn a lot in the process, and it’s nice starting a business with my partner. I guess this is the first transitional step to living with him without roommates in the future, but we can’t do this right now because of his financial situation.

To be super honest, I feel like I worry about him when it comes to getting him back to a stable position financially. Don’t get me wrong, he’s good because of all his assets, but he’s also negatively cash flowing right now which worries me. Plus this pandemic forced his company to put him on economic leave. The Airbnb business is one way to help, but I probably should stop constantly taking on the “save others” role because it takes a toll on me.

At the same time we’re pretty sold on staying together till we’re old and gray, so if that’s the case it’s understandable that I take on his problems…and I tend to do this regardless because I have anxiety issues lol so it’s definitely going to affect me. Anyway, let’s hope everything works out well.

TikTok?!

I’ve been playing with TikTok a lot more during this pandemic, literally because I’m bored and it makes me feel like I’m accomplishing something…but in reality I’m just making funny dance videos. What I’ve been loving about TikTok is that it’s an outlet for my creativity that doesn’t require high production setup. I’m a singer/songwriter/musician…and also a dancer/producer, I suppose. I feel off balance when I’m not in touch with my artistic side enough.

I used to create music videos on YouTube.com/sharonestee – but I currently don’t have time to keep up with this brand. But at least on TikTok I can sometimes create when I want to express myself!
